The State Railway of Thailand (SRT) has awarded a Baht 7.75bn ($US248m) construction contract for the construction to SPTK Joint Venture Company. The contract is given as part of the Bangkok to Nong Khai high-speed rail project, which is a separate project to the Eastern Economic Corridor development.

The SPTK consortium is led by Malaysian construction company Bina Puri, alongside NPA Construction Company of Thailand and Tim Sekata, also from Malaysia.

The contract requires 13km of railway line to be built along a 12km route, as well as the renovation of Nakorn Ratchasima station and the construction of a new station at Phu Kao Lat as well as the construction of other civil works and utilities at the stations.

Construction on the project began in 2018, with the line currently scheduled to open in 2023.
