Brisbane Airport completes runway construction (Australia)

In line with current COVID-19 movement restrictions in Australia, Brisbane Airport has announced the completion of their new runway without ceremony. With groundfield lighting still to be commissioned, the official opening is set for July 12th, and the hope is that movement restrictions will be more relaxed by then, although celebrations are still likely to be kept small-scale.

Having taken eight years to complete, the new runway was expected to double Brisbane Airport’s passenger numbers from 23 million to more than 50 million by 2040. As with the aviation industry in general, the airport must now wait to see how many travellers they will have for their domestic and international flights.
