Work resumes on Auckland City Rail Link (New Zealand)

Construction work on the the $4.4 billion City Rail Link (CRL) project in Auckland has recommenced following the movement restrictions caused by the Covid-19 pandemic. Whilst construction was halted, companies involved in the project were able to plan the return to activity in line with requirements to deal with the virus situation.

However, City Rail Link Ltd chief executive Dr Sean Sweeney has reportedly claimed that the country’s largest infrastructure project will incur increased costs and delays as the project requires extra measures to safeguard workers from the coronavirus. The CRL is being jointly funded by Auckland Council and the Government, and will double the capacity of the city’s commuter rail when it is built in 2024.
