São Paulo to invest $US10bn into rail and bus network (Brazil)

São Paulo’s government has approved investment of approximately $US10.8 billion to expand its rail and bus rapid transit networks by 2023.

The Pluriannual Plan (PPA) will be funded through a public-private partnerships.

Railway extensions planned:

  • Line 9/Emerald to Varginha
  • Line 13/Jade to Bonsucesso in Guarulhos to the São Paulo CBD
  • Line 11/Coral to Barra Funda.

Improvements also planned:

  • Line 7/Ruby
  • Line 8/Diamond
  • Line 10/Turquoise
  • Line 11/Coral
  • Line 12/Sapphire. 
  • Monorail Line 15-Silver from São Mateus east to Cidade Tiradentes
  • Monorail Line 17-Gold

São Paulo’s plan is to increase the number of annual journeys by metro, commuter rail and bus to 3.39 billion by 2023.
